Our Mission
1Through teaching in a low instructor-to-student ratio with the latest competitive techniques, we aim to provide the
best quality instruction in a safe and structured environment. Furthermore, Dolphin Swimming is devoted to
promoting students’ lifelong health, fitness and character through its training program.
Our Program
2Since then, our program has expanded to Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. We have successfully taught over twenty thousand students, both children and adults, how to swim. Our major focus is the individual’s swimming development in water safety skills and swimming proficiency. Our classes are taught in small group settings with enhanced individualized attention at all levels from basic skills to competitive techniques.
Led by Head Coach Tiffany Yip, Dolphin Swimming retains a strong instructor team with over one hundred experienced instructors and teaching assistants. Our certified instructors and teaching assistants have a wealth of experience in swimming teams and stroke proficiency. Some of them are Junior Olympic qualifiers and PSAL record holders. In addition to swimming, Dolphin Swimming also offers basketball and karate programs, taught by coaches and instructors with many years of teaching experience.
Our Students
Every year, Dolphin Swimming trains numerous PSAL swimmers to compete in various high school swimming teams throughout New York City and Long Island.
For example, in the season of 2006/2007 alone, 16 swimmers qualified for the Brooklyn Technical High School swim team and another 16 swimmers qualified for the Bronx High School of Science swim team. In the 2015/2016 season, dozens of swimmers from Dolphin represented their high schools in competitions and won many medals in the PSAL Championships.
Some of our swimmers continued on to advance in their swimming careers, becoming qualifiers in Silver Meet, Junior Olympics and Eastern Zone Championships. One of the most outstanding swimmers, Stanley Wong, has won many gold medals in championships since 2004, including NY Metropolitan, Eastern Zone and National Junior Olympics. His swimming performance helped him gain early acceptance as an undergraduate at Columbia University. In 2016, Stanley was a qualifier for the U.S. Olympic Trial.
Another extraordinary swimmer was Lia Neal, who joined our program at the age of 6. She displayed her talent by obtaining 3 national records in the 10-and-under age group and 2 more national records in the 11 and 12 year old age groups. At the age of 13, her 100 meter freestyle performance also qualified her for the 2008 US Olympic Trial, which made her one of the youngest swimmers in the Olympic Trials. Lia went even further to become a 2-time Olympic medalist with a Bronze Medal at the London 2012 Olympics and a Silver Medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The benefits of swimming are far beyond the pool. Students can gain competitive advantage in applying for scholarships and admissions into prestigious colleges. Some students used the life lessons and skills they have learned in swimming training to further their career opportunities, such as lifeguards, instructors or other leadership positions in sports field.
Contributions to the Community
Dolphin Swimming believes that success starts with empowering our community.
Engaging in countless community activities for more than two decades, Dolphin Swimming strives to inspire its students to continue their personal development beyond the pool and take on valuable roles in the community.
To build team spirit, Dolphin Swimming hosts swim meets and basketball competitions with students from all boroughs in NYC and Long Island annually. Over the years, Dolphin Swimming held multiple Swim Clinics with Olympic gold medalists, starting with Beth Botsford in 2004; Janet Evans in 2005; Aaron Piersol in 2011; Josh Davis in 2007, 2011 and 2018; and Nathan Adrian in 2018. In celebration of our 20th Year Anniversary in 2018, our former students, Stanley Wong and Lia Neal, also joined us in the swim clinic with Josh Davis and Nathan Adrian. Basketball clinics, such as the NY Knicks Basketball Clinic, and games with the local communities are held frequently as well.
Dolphin Swimming actively gives back to the community by participating in various volunteering events and local celebrations. We have received Appreciation Awards every year for over a decade from the office of Senator Martin Golden for Distinguished Community Service, and are also a recipient of Recognition Awards from other legislators for providing valuable service to the community. Furthermore, we are a strong and proud supporter of many water safety organizations such as the USA Swimming Foundation, Swim Across America and American Red Cross.
Our Founder
3As an accomplished swimmer, Tiffany was the 1990 NYC High School Most Outstanding Swimmer in the PSAL Championship, record keeper at NY Metropolitan & UAA Championship in 1991-1993, and the All-American Swimmer at NCAA Championship in 1991 and 1992.
With a passion for swimming and teaching, Tiffany started her teaching career in swimming when she was a student in college. As her reputation as a skilled instructor grew over the years, Tiffany founded Dolphin Swimming in 1997 with wide support and demand from her students and community. Since then, Tiffany has devoted herself to promote the sport of swimming and the mission of the program. Utilizing her strong leadership skills from her MBA background and over 30 years of teaching experience, Tiffany has successfully designed Dolphin Swimming to become the effective and reputable sports program that it is today.
Tiffany is an ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) Certified Coach, a WSCA (World Swimming Coach Association) member and an American Red Cross Water Safety Certified Instructor and Instructor Trainer. She is a frequent attendee and guest speaker for ASCA national conferences, World Clinics, and national swim school conferences to share her teaching experience and leadership skills. She regularly initiates community events for her staff and students and personally volunteers services to countless charities. She was awarded by the American Red Cross for her volunteer work, and is also a frequent recipient of Achievement Awards and Recognition in Community Services from Mayor Bloomberg, as well as legislators in New York.
Tiffany believes that a person or an organization must continue to improve, innovate, keep pace with the ever changing times and strive for excellence. Living by this motto, she keeps abreast of the world’s latest swimming and teaching techniques, and integrates them into the Dolphin Swimming Program. She serves as a role model to her staff and students. In 2016, she won 1st place for all age groups in the 2-mile Open Water Ocean Swim Race in Coney Island. It was the first long distance swim race in her lifetime. In 2017, she again stepped out of her comfort zone and completed her first Marathon, as well as the NYC Triathlon. In 2018, she raced the 50-yard freestyle sprint event in the U.S. Master Swim Competition – the same event that she did in college over 25 years ago. Her time was placed 1st for her age group in New York State and 15th in the U.S. National Master Swim records.
Tiffany trusts in being humble, positive, open minded and having a caring heart for teaching and navigating challenges in life. With her ongoing driven spirit, she continues to motivate our next generation to improve themselves in swimming and beyond, and ultimately achieve the fullest potential in their lives.
